People have different views about the right time to take legal advice when considering a separation. Some will come to see a solicitor before they have even told their partner of their decision. Others will wait until they simply cannot see a way forwards without the benefit of legal advice.

Adopting your partner’s children is often referred to as step parent adoption. Legally there are clear consequences of adopting in this way. It means that the person adopting takes on full parental responsibility for the child.

When you go through a separation or divorce it is ultimately because your relationship has broken down. You may feel hurt, angry and resentful and furthermore, the trust you once had with your ex-partner may have diminished completely.

A Parental Agreement or a Shared Parenting Plan is a plan drawn up by both parents and sometimes grandparents, or a guardian, and sets out the day to day parenting of the children. A Shared Parenting Agreement plan is based around what is in the best interests of the children.

If you are approaching a solicitor about a family issue, the chances are you are probably going through a really difficult period in your life. When making any other purchase that you are likely to spend a lot of money on, like a new car or the latest phone, you would likely spend hours doing your homework. Would you spend the same amount of time choosing a solicitor?
